McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy

The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) is an internationally recognized method of assessment and treatment for neck, back, and extremity pain.  This comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal pain includes 4 stages: Assessment, Classification, Treatment, and Prevention.

While clinician involvement is important, heavy emphasis is placed on active patient involvement and education.  Part of the assessment is treating the source of the problem, not just the symptoms.  By understanding the source of the problem, our therapists can teach you proper and preventative exercises to further your healing.  Recently, one of our PTs was seeing a patient for elbow pain, but after assessment it was stemming from a shoulder injury.  Many patients treated with McKenzie Method techniques can see relief in their first visits.

All of the Premier Physical Therapy PTs have received training in the McKenzie Method.  For more information on this technique, visit the McKenzie Institute USA website.  Ask your therapist about how the MDT can help you towards a pain-free lifestyle.
