PPT dry needling

Dry needling is a treatment technique to relieve pain & improve range of motion.

Premier Physical Therapy is excited to now be offering Dry Needling to our list of effective treatments enhancing the body’s ability to heal. The easiest way to help speed up active rehabilitation, dry needling is not as painful as it sounds.

The process begins with a sterile filiform needle that is inserted through the skin into muscles, tendons, ligaments, and even nerves. When the muscle is stimulated with the needle, a twitch or rapid depolarization of the fibers takes place. This removes the compression of the join, nerve, or vascular tissue. As a result, the muscle activity reduces, allowing it to relax while pain and dysfunction decrease.

Dry needling is NOT acupuncture!

Acupuncture follows Eastern Medicine’s key principles of holistic treatment and normalizing the body’s energy imbalance. Dry needling is strictly based on Western neuroanatomy, modern scientific study of the musculoskeletal system, and supported by research.

Is it painful?

Though it sounds painful, the level of discomfort you may receive is short-lived and worth the end results. Typically patients experience a “twitch response,” which often feels like a quick muscle cramp or ache. There may be some soreness immediately after the treatment, but it is normal. Trigger points that are causing pain can be relieved with dry needling that are not manually palpable.
