Football Season Is Fast Approaching!
August 1, 2017

With August underway, that means that America’s favorite sport (football, of course) is starting! Many football players are prone to injury whether it be by impact or overuse of muscles. Keep reading to learn about the common football injuries and how to prevent them.
Common football injuries:

  • Traumatic injuries: any type of injury that is sudden and has extreme onset of pain such as a torn ACL.
  • Concussion: This is a traumatic hit to the head that causes dizziness, nausea, headaches, extreme fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and blurry vision.
  • Overuse injuries: injuries that develop over time due to unconditioned muscles including low back pain or knee pain.
  • Heat injuries: being under prolonged high heat while practicing outside can cause cramping, dehydration, nausea, dizziness, and much more.

To prevent injury, make sure all equipment is fitted correctly, including all pads, shoes, and especially the helmet. The best way to prevent injury is to make sure the player is using the right technique as well. A certified athletic trainer or physical therapist can help guide the player by evaluating their body type and the proper techniques necessary to achieve the best performance. If injured, they can also improve recovery time so they can get back to playing as soon as possible.
